About Black Boys in Tech
Black Boys in Tech is a workforce development organization that specializes in preparing and placing diverse STEM talent. Our pipeline begins at birth with building early STEM literacy skills and ends after members are placed at their first professional position after high school. In addition to our four school/community programs, we offer a menu of age-appropriate courses and Tech Camps as part of our outreach efforts. This particular course is offered exclusively to our general membership.
Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Course Instructor to lead our Introduction to Aviation course designed for kids. As an aviation enthusiast with a passion for teaching, you will inspire and educate young minds about the fascinating world of flight. This part-time position offers a rewarding opportunity to spark curiosity, foster learning, and shape the next generation of aviation enthusiasts.
Qualifications
Educational Background: Currently pursuing (or already have obtained) a degree or relevant certification in Aeronautics, Engineering, Engineering Technology, STEM Education, or a related field is preferred.
Aerospace Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of aerospace principles, flight mechanics, and aviation technology is preferred but not required.
Model Aircraft Experience: Some background in building model aircraft and spacecraft, including sliders, RC planes, drones, and rocket kits.
Teaching or Tutoring Experience: Prior experience teaching, tutoring, or mentoring kids is highly desirable. Patience, enthusiasm, and the ability to explain complex concepts in an accessible manner are essential.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and effectively to both students and adults.
Child Safety: Be able to pass a local and federal background check.
Responsibilities
Prework: Familiarize yourself with Black Boys in Tech’s Intro to Aviation: Fundamentals of Flight course.
Lesson Planning: Using the course curriculum as a template, plan engaging lessons that allow students to effectively learn the course material.
Class Facilitation: Lead interactive and dynamic classes to engage kids in the learning process. Utilize various teaching methods, such as hands-on projects, group activities, and discussions, to enhance understanding and retention.
Monitoring & Evaluation: Monitor student involvement and progress by tracking attendance, providing grades and constructive feedback, and conducting pre- and post-assessments. Administer program evaluations at the end of the course.
Child Safety Awareness: Commitment to maintaining a safe and secure environment for all participants, adhering to child safety protocols and procedures.
Meetings: Attend meetings held by BBIT program managers.
Other Tasks: Implement other tasks as assigned by the BBIT program manager.
Course Information:
Throughout this interactive and engaging course, kids will embark on a thrilling journey to explore the fundamentals of aviation, aerospace, and the wonders of flying. From understanding the principles of flight to exploring the history of aviation pioneers, this course will ignite their imagination and leave them with a newfound appreciation for the skies.
